  • [01] Premier to spend Easter on Tinos

Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis will depart for the Cyclades island of Tinos on Thursday as Orthodox Easter week winds down towards Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday in the predominately Eastern Orthodox nation of 11 million.

On Good Friday, the prime minister will attend mass at the island's renowned Cathedral, dedicated to the Madonna, while attending the late Saturday night resurrection service at the Kechrovounio Monastery. On Easter Sunday, he will board the Hellenic Navy cruiser "Kanaris" docked at the port of Tinos.

The prime minister will return to Athens on Tuesday to preside over an Inner Cabinet meeting focusing on a ministry of state-sponsored draft bill regarding mass media concentration and the long-standing issue of permanent nationwide broadcast licenses.

[02] Papoulias visit to Evros military units

President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias will celebrate Easter Sunday this year with the officers, NCOs and servicemen of the 50th mechanised brigade in extreme northeastern Greece, according to his office.

Specifically, Papoulias will travel to the Soufli region, Evros Prefecture, after his arrival at Alexandroupolis' Democritus Airport on Saturday.

He will attend the Holy Saturday's resurrection mass at the Aghios Georgios (St. George) Cathedral followed by a reception at the officers' club.

On Easter Sunday he will visit a military outpost in the Lavara district before heading for the brigade's headquarters in Soufli, where he will dine with the unit's troops.
