[01] FM Dora Bakoyannis to tour Balkans this weekForeign Minister Dora Bakoyannis will tour several Balkan countries this week, while in published comments to an Athens daily, the newly appointed foreign minister revealed her first moves, which include receiving her Turkish counterpart in Athens, meeting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a visit to Nicosia and then to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).Bakoyannis pointed out that Athens' foreign policy will not change, while referring to Greek-Turkish relations, she said Greek interests are served by a European Turkey. Bakoyannis stressed that she had never asked for the foreign ministry and noted that the government is the victim of the phone-tapping conspiracy. [02] Poll shows small PASOK edge over NDThe latest opinion poll released by an Athens daily apparently shows main opposition PASOK party leading ruling New Democracy party by 0.4 percent. The poll was published for the Sunday edition of the newspaper ?Ethnos?, and carried out by the firm Alko from Feb. 12 to Feb. 21 this year.Respondents gave PASOK 34.4 percent, ND 34 percent, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) 6.7 percent, the out-of-Parliament Popular Orthodox Rally (LA.OS) 5.6 percent and the Coalition of the Left (Synaspismos) 2.8 percent. A previous poll conducted by the same firm in November 2005 gave ND 34.8 percent, PASOK 33.6, KKE 6.6, LA.OS 3.4 and Synaspismos 3 percent. Regarding the question of ?most suitable for prime minister", Premier Costas Karamanlis is ahead with 43.4 percent, against 35.7 percent for PASOK leader George Papandreou. Lastly, on the question of "who do you think will win the next elections", 49 percent of respondents said ND will win again, while 34.3 picked PASOK. [03] Parliamentary debate on jobs on Mon.An off-the-agenda debate on unemployment will take place in Parliament on Monday, at the initiative of the Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology (Synaspismos) party. Speaking in Hania, Crete, on Saturday, Coalition party leader Alekos Alavanos criticised the government for its social policy and accused the main opposition PASOK party of consenting with major government options, while stressing that the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) is trying to exploit social struggles for party purposes.Criticising the government, Alavanos said "it is turning us back to the early 20th century with the abolition of eight-hour work. With its militarised response to social struggles, as we saw recently with seamen, it is turning us back to the darkest moments of our modern history when social and political problems receive a military reply from authority."
