  • [01] Premier confers with FM Molyviatis

Prime minister Costas Karamanlis on Friday met with foreign minister Petros Molyviatis.

Molyviatis told reporters after the meeting that he had briefed the premier on all current developments in Greek foreign policy issues, adding that it was a routine meeting.

According to a foreign ministry announcement on Thursday, Molyviatis will be one of the three foreign affairs ministers to visit Belgrade and Pristina to discuss the status of Kosovo, during an informal visit by the South Eastern European Cooperation Process (SEECP) 'troika'.

Foreign ministry spokesman George Koumoutsakos said that Molyviatis will be accompanied by his counterparts from Romania and Croatia and that the planned visits will most likely take place on December 6-7.

The aim of the visits is to underline the interest of neighbouring Balkan countries in the crucial issue of Kosovo's status and for all sides to be fully briefed on the issue, as well as to underline the need for constant consultation and cooperation, the spokesman said.

He stressed that preserving the stability of the region was the top priority and that a settlement for Kosovo must on no account lead to destabilisation for the region.

[02] PASOK to form 'National Committee' for young people

Main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou on Friday announced the establishment of a "National Committee for Inspiration and Dialogue for the New Generation".

Papandreou was addressing a seminar organised by the European Parliament's Socialists on "Young People and Unemployment: The Future needs Work" at the offices of the General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE), Greece's largest trade union umbrella.

He said the new political body will transmute the problems and concerns of young people into political action, in which young people from all walks of society could participate, with the aim of creating a new political organisation that will embrace the entire new generation.
