[01] Warplanes from 19 countries participate at 'Archangel '05' air
show
A record number of military planes from 19 countries joined the
Hellenic Air Force on Sunday in an international air show, "Archangel
2005", held at the Tanagra airbase, north of Athens.
Highlights of the air show included simulated bombing runs and evasions
by Greek F-16 fighters, a pilot rescue exercise involving two "Super
Puma" helicopters, a flyover by a Euro-fighter "Typhoon" and a vertical
take-off, landing and mid-air hovering by a British-made Harrier jet.
Among the dignitaries at the exhibition was President of the Republic
Karolos Papoulias, who was briefed on the air force's readiness and
combat capability.
