[02] Athens Bourse Close: Stocks nose up in slim trade

The Athens bourse finished higher on Wednesday in traditionally light trade before the Christmas holiday, traders said.

The general share index gained 0.27 percent to end at 2,209.45 points. Turnover was 79.7 million euros.

The FTSE/ASE-20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks ended 0.51 per cent up; the FTSE/ASE-40 for medium capitalisation paper 0.08 per cent lower; and the FTSE/ASE-80 for small cap equities finished with losses of 0.04 percent.

Of stocks traded, declines led advances at 149 to 137 with 63 issues remaining unchanged.

[04] Christmas Day weather -- Snow, rain forecast

A white Christmas is forecast for the mountainous regions of northern and central Greece on Thursday, with rain showers expected elsewhere in the country. Northeasterly winds, gusty to gale force intensity on the seas. Temperatures between 3C to 9C in the north; 2C to 13C in the rest of the mainland and 6C to 15C on the islands.

R ain is forecast for Christmas Day in Athens, with snowfall possible in the mountains around the capital, 7C to 12C. Sleet and freezing showers expected in Thessaloniki, 2C to 6C.
