    Athens-quoted Titan Cement Company Co. said on Monday that it had signed a contract with the Heidelberg Group of Germany for the acquisition of 99.9 per cent of a Bulgarian cement maker.

    The buyout of Zlatna Panega Cement AD is part of Titan's strategy of expansion abroad, the Greek firm said in a statement.

    Located near Sofia, Zlatna has an output capacity of one million tonnes of cement. It also has three units for the production of ready-mix concrete, the statement said.

    [02] Athens Bourse Close: Stocks slip in modest trade

    The Athens bourse finished lower on Monday but outperformed remaining European markets with the euro's sharp rise hurting quoted exporters.

    The general share index shed 0.39 percent to end at 2,178.74 points. Turnover was 121.5 million euros.

    The FTSE/ASE-20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks ended 0.41 percent down; the FTSE/ASE-40 for medium capitalisation paper 0.69 percent lower; and the FTSE/ASE-80 for small cap equities finished with losses of 1.31 percent.

    Of stocks traded, declines led advances at 245 to 53 with 54 issues remaining unchanged.

    Cloud is forecast throughout the country with showers in most parts of the country. Snow will fall on high ground, and the Ionian can expect storms. Winds variable, very strong to gale force. Temperatures low, with a minimum of 5C and maximum of 12C in Athens; and in Thessaloniki, 1C to 7C.
