[02] Athens Bourse Close: Stocks rise, led by banks

The Athens bourse finished higher on Wednesday, showing a straight rise during trade with slight losses in profit-taking near the close, traders said.

The general share index gained 0.78 percent to end at 1,848.56 points, up 0.78 percent. Turnover was lower at 87.1 million euros.

The FTSE/ASE-20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks ended 1.06 percent up; the FTSE/ASE-40 for medium capitalisation paper 0.19 percent higher; and the FTSE/ASE-80 for small cap equities 0.29 percent down.

Of stocks traded, declines led advances at 174 to 122 with 58 issues remaining unchanged.

[03] Weather Forecast: Rain, storms on Thursday

Rain and storms are forecast in all parts of the country, with snow expected to fall on high ground in the north. Winds variable, moderate to very strong. In the north, temperatures will range from 4C to 12C; in the Ionian and on the rest of the mainland from 12C to 19C; and in the Aegean islands from 15C to 22C. Temperatures in Athens between 16C and 20C; and in Thessaloniki from 7C to 12C.
