[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: negative climate

Equities were falling at the opening of the session Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, with investor confidence crumpling as the bad news from foreign markets continued to pour in.

The general share price index was down 0.50 per cent 20 minutes after trade opened, standing at 2,094.18 points, with turnover at 4.5 million euros.

Individual sector indices were mostly moving down, with the biggest gains in Insurance, up 0.70 per cent, and the biggest losses in Retail Trade, down 1.95 per cent.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.52 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.26 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was down 0.22 percent.

Of the stocks moved, 46 were up, 100 were down and 52 were unchanged.

[03] Weather Forecast: Unsettled on Wednesday

Changeable weather is forecast in all parts of the country, with sunny spells, cloud, showers and storms. Winds northerly, light to moderate, turning strong in the southeastern Aegean. On the mainland, temperatures will range from 15C to 29C; and in the islands from 20C to 28C. Temperatures in Athens between 19C and 29C; and in Thessaloniki between 19C and 28C.
