Earlier, the members of the new PADEE board visited Parliament President Apostolos Kaklamanis. Receiving them, Kaklamanis said ''we are happy because an effort which started six years ago with hard work by expartiate policicians from 5 continents has reached an extremely important milestone.'' [02] Marine researcher Jean-Michel Cousteau visits 'Athens 2004' headquarters25/07/2002 20:34:09Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of renowned oceanographer Jacques Yves-Cousteau, on Thursday visited the headquarters of the Athens 2004 Organising Committee (ATHOC). Cousteau, distinguished marine researcher and member of the world environment movement, met with ATHOC adviser Spyros Kapralos and Environment director G. Kazantzopoulos, who briefed him on the environmental activities which ATHOC has undertaken in view of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Cousteau said that he was pleased with the fact that ''Athens 2004 ''is showing real interest for the improvement of the environment.'' The Cyclades islands may see showers. Winds westerly, light to moderate, turning strong in parts of the southern Aegean. In the north, temperatures will range from 18C to 30C; in the west from 20C to 32C; and in the rest of the country from 22C to 34C. Showers and storms are expected in Athens from evening with temperatures between 24C and 33C. Same in Thessaloniki with temperatures from 21 to 30C. [05] ASE follows international markets' recovery25/07/2002 16:35:40Greek stocks ended sharply higher on Thursday, dramatically reversing a several-day decline in the Athens Stock Exchange supported by a substantial recovery in international markets. The general index ended 2.22 percent higher at 2,072.41 points, with turnover a low 86.1 million euros. The IT Solutions, IT, Banks and Publication sectors scored the biggest percentage gains of the day (3.20 percent, 2.83 percent, 2.58 percent and 2.48 percent, respectively), while the Holding and Food-Beverage sectors suffered the heaviest percentage losses (0.48 percent and 0.13 percent, respectively). The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavy traded stocks rose 2.16 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index ended 2.14 percent higher and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index ended 2.36 percent up.
