[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: rise

Equity prices rose at the opening of trade Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, with the general index up 0.97 percent at 2,695.43 points and turnover at 8.7 million euro.

Individual sector indices were moving up across the board, with the biggest gains in retail trade, up 3.14 percent.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.82 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.3 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SMALLCAP index was down 1.2 percent.

Of the stocks moved, 230 were up, 38 were down and 110 were unchanged.

[02] Weather Forecast: Sunny skies on Wednesday

Sunshine is forecast throughout the country on Wednesday, although from evening isolated storms may break out in the north, mainly on high ground. Winds northerly, light to moderate, turning strong in parts of the Aegean. In the west and north, temperatures will range from 19C to 35C; on the rest of the mainland from 21C to 37C; and in the Aegean islands from 23C to 33C. Sunny in Athens with temperatures between 24C and 37C. Same in Thessaloniki, with temperatures from 22C to 33C.
