    24/05/2001 20:47:55

An international conference on children victimized by war began in Athens on Thursday.

The conference, which is organised by the "Foundation for the Child and the Family" in cooperation with "The Hague Call for Peace" and is being held under the auspices of the foreign ministry, called attention to the use of children in warfare.

Mariana Vardinoyiannis, president of the Foundation for the Child and the Family, addressed the conference calling for action against the use of children in warfare and for the protection of children from violence.

The conference is attended by notable Greek and foreign personalities, while international figures sent telegrammes lauding the effort, which is part of the International Decade (2001-2010) for the Culture of Peace and the Avoidance of Violence.
