The Bank of Greece today lowered its main intervention rates by up to 1.0 percentage point, effective immediately, in the third reduction in less than three months, bringing domestic short-term loan rates closer to their euro-zone equivalents. After a meeting of its Monetary Policy Council, the central bank announced a 1.0 percent reduction in the weekly intervention rate for two-week funds to 9.75 percent from 10.75 percent. It also slashed the primary overnight lending rate 9.50 percent from 10.25 percent; and the secondary overnight rate 8.5 percent from 9.0 percent, and reduced the Lombard rate to 11 percent from 11.5 percent.
