Athens,22/11/93(ANA)--Foreign Minister Karolos Papoulias will
take part in a special meeting of foreign ministers of the
European Union to discuss the situation in former Yugoslavia
in Luxembourg today, a Foreign Ministry statement said. Mr
Papoulias will also attend the Council of Ministers of the
West European Union. 


Belgrade,22/11/93(ANA-N.Georgiadis)--Greece's Foreign Minister
Karolos Papoulias Saturday handed Bosnian Prime Minister Haris
Silajdzic a draft of the three-point proposal on a solution to
the Yugoslav crisis which Greece will submit to the EC when it
assumes the rotating presidency January 1. Mr Papoulias said
the 90-minute meeting in Split was a "happy " coincidence. Mr
Papoulias had been originally scheduled to meet with Bosnian
President Alija Izetbegovic in Sarajevo, but weather
conditions forced his plane to turn to the port city of Split
where Mr Silajdzic was also waiting for the weather to clear
before returning to Sarajevo. Mr Silajdzic had also been in
Zagreb where he had conferred with Croatian President Franjo
Tudjman. Mr Papoulias returned to Zagreb after his meeting
whereupon he left for Luxembourg. 


     Athens,22/11/93(ANA)--Defence Minister Gerasimos Arsenis
attends the Western European Union's joint defence and foreign
ministers meeting, to be held in Luxembourg today. Mr Arsenis
left Athens for Luxembourg yesterday, and is due back in
Athens tomorrow. 


     Athens, 22/11/93(ANA)--Public Order Minister Stelios
Papathemelis will meet US Ambassador Thomas Niles today for
talks on matters of mutual interest. According to reports, the
issue of the two US embassy officials arrested in Athens
several days ago will also be discussed. The two Americans
were released after their diplomatic capacity was ascertained
and the embassy car they used was not searched. According to
the reports, the two Americans have already left Greece and so
have other US embassy officials working with them, in
following a Palestinian agent on the day of the arrest. 


Athens,22/11/93(ANA)--In a message marking National Resistance
Day yesterday and the anniversary of the destruction of the
Gorgopotamos bridge by Greek guerrillas in co-operation with
British commandos, Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou said the
Greeks' celebration of their National resistance Day was
conducted "with national unity and unanimity". Athens
celebrated National Resistance Day with a Te Deum service at
the Metropolitan Cathedral and the laying of wreaths at the
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The events was attended by Labour
Minister Evangelos Yiannopoulos on behalf of the government,
New Democracy party leader Miltiades Evert, Parliament
President Apostolos Kaklamanis and other officials. 


Skopje/New York (Macedonian Press Agency/ANA)--The Former
Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, FYROM, has threatened to
disrupt UN-sponsored talks with Greece if a Greek request that
talks on confidence-building measures between the two states
be separated from those on the name issue is accepted.
According to Skopje state radio, Mr Tosevski said FYROM has
not yet received any official notification as to whether and
in which way negotiations with Greece will continue, adding
that he is awaiting the report UN Secretary General Boutros
Ghali is expected to submit in December. He said a further
issue was which form these negotiations will be conducted in,
bearing in mind the Greek aim of separating negotiations for
confidence-building measures from those on the name. Mr
Tosevski said such a separation can only take place under a
new Security Council decision, adding that in no way will this
be accepted by FYROM because in essence it will mean the
freezing of the present process by which FYROM was accepted at
the UN under the temporary name "Former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia". Asked to comment on reports that the Greek
government wants the FYROM issue to return to the European
Community, Mr Tosevski said such an eventuality was
"improbable", noting the intention of Italy and France to
upgrade the level of their diplomatic relations
with FYROM. According to reports from New York, a UN spokesman
said he was unaware as to whether Greece would reply to Mr
Boutros Ghali's letter on the FYROM issue, adding that the
issue of whether or not the date for the resumption of talks
will be set is in the hands of UN mediator Cyrus Vance.
