Le groupe de haut niveau sur la libre circulation des travailleurs va se réunir pour examiner les statistiques relatives aux flux de main-d'œuvre à travers l'Union et le bilan à tirer dans ce domaine depuis l'élargissement de 2004, en particulier dans les "anciens" Etats membres de l'Union des Quinze. Des représentants de la Commission européenne, des Etats membres de l'UE et des partenaires sociaux (employeurs et syndicats) participeront à la réunion. Les résultats de ces travaux alimenteront le rapport sur le fonctionnement des restrictions que la Commission doit présenter au Conseil en janvier.[02] Un institut européen de technologie ? La Commission lance une consultation publiqueLa Commission européenne a lancé aujourd'hui une consultation publique au sujet de la création d'un Institut européen de technologie (IET). Elle recueillera les avis des parties concernées sur la manière dont un IET pourrait dynamiser la recherche, l'éducation et l'innovation du marché en Europe. Cette consultation aura lieu jusqu'à la mi-novembre et fera partie d'une analyse plus large des services de la Commission.[03] Commission clears acquisition of Quester by CRHThe European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Arcos Beteiligungsverwaltung GmbH and Quester Lizenzmarketing GmbH (Quester) of Austria by CRH plc. of Ireland. CRH is an international holding company, active in the production and distribution of building materials. The distribution activities of CRH include wholesale to the construction industry and builders merchants, as well as retail sales to its DIY (do-it-yourself) stores. Quester is an Austrian company which operates and franchises builders merchants' outlets across Austria. Quester is predominantly active as a wholesaler. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.[04] Commission clears acquisition of CMP Fonds by Goldman Sachs, HVB, Gerling and NobiscumThe European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of CMP Fonds I GmbH (CMP Fonds) of Germany by the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (Goldman Sachs) of the US, Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG (HVB), Gerling-Konzern Versicherungs-Beteiligungs AG (Gerling) and Nobiscum Verwaltungs- und Treuhandgesellschaft mbH (Nobiscum), all of Germany. Goldman Sachs is a global investment banking, securities and investment firm. HVB is a major bank that focuses on European private and business customers but also offers capital market services. Gerling is an international insurance company with a focus on industrial, business and private customers. Nobiscum is a trust company for approximately 200 individuals, none of whom has a shareholding of more than 25% in Nobiscum. CMP Fonds is a venture capital company which invests in distressed assets. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.[05] August 2005 : Euro-zone annual inflation stable at 2.2% ; EU25 up to 2.2%Euro-zone annual inflation was 2.2% in August 2005, unchanged compared to July. Ces estimations sont publiées par Eurostat.[07] Liberia : EU Election Observation Mission for Presidential and Parliamentary ElectionsThe European Commission has deployed an EU Election Observation Mission (EOM) for the presidential and parliamentary elections in Liberia scheduled to take place on 11 October. The EOM is a further contribution by the European Commission to supporting peace and democracy in Liberia. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, said : "The forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections are a crucial moment for Liberia and, if conducted successfully, will mark a significant step forward for the country. I have, therefore, decided to appoint the Member of the European Parliament Max van den Berg to head an Election Observation Mission to evaluate all aspects of the process and assess whether the elections are conducted in a transparent and credible manner in line with international standards for democratic elections."[08] Cream of Europe's Young Scientists meet in MoscowOn Sunday 18 September, some 126 young people from 35 countries – the cream of Europe's young scientists plus guests from the USA, Japan and China – will meet in Moscow at the Bauman University to compete in the 17th European Union Young Scientist Contest. The contest will be opened by the Vice-Premier of the Russian Government, Alexander Zhukov. Over the next two days the 79 innovative projects exhibited there will be judged by a distinguished jury headed by Dr Ulf Merbold, the first European Space Agency astronaut to go into space. On 21 September the prizes, worth €28, 500, will be awarded in the Council Hall of Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour complex. This annual event is to encourage young people to pursue their interest in science and embark on scientific careers.[09] High-ranking officials responsible for ERDF discuss "Regional competitiveness and employment" objective in ItalyThe future of "regional competitiveness and employment" objective was the central topic debated during a seminar organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the Italian authorities in Turin on the 15th and 16th September.
