[01] Commission approves acquisition of Solvus by United Services Group
The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the
proposed transaction whereby the Dutch company United Services Group N.V.
acquires sole control of the Belgian company Solvus N.V. Both companies are
active in the temporary employment services business. After examining the
operation, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not
significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area or
any substantial part of it and has therefore approved the concentration.
[02] Commission clears acquisition of Viterra by DAIG
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Viterra Gruppe (Viterra)
of Germany by Deutsche Annington Immobilien GmbH (DAIG) of Germany. DAIG is
a subsidiary of the UK private equity group Terra Firma and is active in
real estate business in Germany, focussing on sales and rentals. Viterra,
currently controlled by the German utility E.ON, is active in selling,
renting and developing real estate. The operation was examined under the
simplified merger review procedure.
[03] La Commission appelle au retour à l'ordre constitutionnel en
Mauritanie
La Commission européenne a exprimé le 3 août sa vive préoccupation sur
la situation en Mauritanie et lance un appel au retour à l'ordre
constitutionnel. Le Commissaire au Développement et à l'Aide humanitaire,
Louis Michel, a "déploré la prise du pouvoir par la force et appelé au
respect de la démocratie et du cadre constitutionnel légal". Dans ce sens,
M. Michel a salué l'appel démocratique lancé par le Président
de la Commission de l'Union Africaine, M. Alpha Oumar Konaré. La
Commission continuera à suivre très attentivement l'évolution des
événements et, le moment venu, appréciera la situation en fonction des
dispositions applicables de l'Accord de Cotonou dont la Mauritanie est
signataire.
