  • [01] Transport urbain propre : 50 millions d'euros pour des villes pilotes La Commission europ�enne a r�v�l� aujourd'hui les noms des quatorze villes pilotes qui b�n�ficieront dans le cadre du 5�me programme cadre de recherche et de d�veloppement d'une enveloppe de 50 millions d'euros pour mettre en �uvre des mesures audacieuses, innovantes et int�gr�es afin d'am�liorer radicalement leur transport urbain. Cinq "villes associ�es" des pays candidats � l'adh�sion se sont port�es volontaires pour rejoindre ce groupe. "Seules des approches nouvelles peuvent permettre de combattre avec succ�s la croissance de la pollution et de la congestion caus�e par le transport en ville. La Commission est heureuse de soutenir financi�rement des villes pilotes pr�tes � d�montrer l'efficacit� d'une action int�gr�e", a d�clar� Loyola de Palacio, Vice-Pr�sidente en charge de l'Energie et des Transports.
  • [02] Nouveau Pr�sident du CIO : Viviane Reding adresse ses f�licitations � Jacques Rogge Viviane Reding, membre de la Commission europ�enne en charge des Sports, a adress� ce matin ses f�licitations � Jacques Rogge pour son �lection � la pr�sidence du Comit� International Olympique (CIO). "L'�lection du Docteur Jacques Rogge � la pr�sidence du CIO est une bonne nouvelle pour le sport mondial comme pour l'Europe", a d�clar� Viviane Reding � l'annonce des r�sultats de l'�lection � Moscou du 8�me Pr�sident du CIO. Dans sa lettre de f�licitations, la Commissaire ajoute : "Votre �lection symbolise le succ�s des valeurs auxquelles la Commission europ�enne est attach�e, telles que le fair play, la transparence et la solidarit�. La t�che qui s'annonce est immense mais je n'ai aucun doute quant � votre succ�s dans cette entreprise."
  • [03] Poul Nielson launches EU-Cameroon development strategy worth euro 159 million On a three-day official visit to Cameroon, Mr Poul Nielson, the European Commissioner in charge of Development and Humanitarian Aid, signed along with the Cameroon government the development blueprint for the next five years. Worth euro 159 million for the period 2001-2006, the signing of the Cameroon country strategy document and national indicative programme of the 9th European Development Fund is the first under the Cotonou Agreement which was signed in June 2000. This new cooperation strategy will focus on aid for Cameroon's poverty reduction strategy. While in Cameroon, Mr Nielson will also inaugurate with Prime Minister Peter Mafany Musonge the regional Bertoua-Garoua Boula� road which received euro 98 million in Community financing. This 247 km road is part of the regional network and will improve communications with more remote parts of the country and between the port of Douala and Chad and the Central African Republic. On Monday 16 July, Mr Nielson also addressed the Universit� Catholique d'Afrique Centrale on the theme of Cameroon and the Cotonou Agreement.
  • [04] Michel Barnier visits Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania (16-19 July 2001) European Commissioner Michel Barnier, responsible for Regional Policy and Institutional Reform, will meet the prime ministers of the three countries as well as the ministers for Foreign Affairs and the ministers responsible for overseeing Community pre-accession aid programmes. Discussions will focus on management of pre-accession aid programmes and the ISPA programme in particular, preparation for accession in the area of regional policy and the future of the Union debate.
