[01] Commission gets new BSE warning
STRASBOURG - More than 100 Euro MPs on Thursday backed a censure motion which
would have forced European Commission President Jacques Santer and his 19
commissioners out of office for mishandling the mad cow crisis.
[02] Proposal on veterinary medicine
STRASBOURG - The European Parliament on Thursday approved part of a proposal
setting a procedure to fix maximum residue limits for veterinary medicinal
products in food containing animal ingredients.
[03] Transit fraud report
STRASBOURG - The European Union loses up to 30 billion Ecus in revenue as a
result of smuggled goods and forged documents, a leading member of a European
Parliament inquiry into transit fraud said on Thursday.

STRASBOURG - The European Parliament on Thursday approved a draft directive
which sets common European Union guidelines for issuing licences to
telecommunications operators.

STRASBOURG - The European Parliament approved on Thursday the Council common
position on a planned system for regulating satellite phone systems in Europe.

STRASBOURG - The European Parliament said on Thursday the European Union
institutions must ban discrimination against their own staff on the basis of
sexual orientation or age.

STRASBOURG - European Commission plans to give consumers greater protection
against abusive credit terms are generally good but need amending, the
European Parliament said on Thursday.

GENEVA - The World Trade Organisation on Thursday named three international
experts to adjudicate in the EU-US row over investment in Cuba but Brussels
insisted it still wanted to find a solution in direct talks with Washington.
[09] Boeing/McDonnell for EU approval
BRUSSELS - U.S. aircraft giant Boeing Co has formally requested the European
Commission to clear its proposed acquisition of rival McDonnell Douglas Corp
also of the United States, a Commission official told Reuters on Thursday.
[10] Sidmar buy of Ferrometalli Safem
BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Thursday it had cleared the
acquisition of Italian steel company Ferrometalli Safem SpA by Sidmar NV, a
subsidiary of the Arbed group.
[11] Credit Lyonnais faces/EU talks
BRUSSELS - The European Commission, which will shortly receive a French
request for permission to rescue Credit Lyonnais for the third time in four
years, said on Thursday it would put tough conditions, including further asset
disposals, on any new state subsidies.
