    BRUSSELS - The European Union's monetary committee did not discuss the possible entry of the Italian lira into the Exchange Rate Mechanism, EU monetary sources said on Tuesday.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission's competition directorate has proposed blocking the merger of the silicon carbide operations of Saint-Gobain, Wacker- Chemie and Dutch investment firm NOM, but the final decision is still in doubt, EU officials said on Tuesday.

    BRUSSELS - The European Union has revised its list of demands made to the Japanese government for inclusion in Tokyo's ongoing deregulation programme, adding a request for various administrative reforms to a long list.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Tuesday it had imposed provisional anti-dumping penalties averaging 20 percent on grey cotton fabric from India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt.

    BRUSSELS - Exporters shipping U.S. gene modified maize to the European Union do so at their own risk, a European Commission spokesman said on Tuesday.

    BRUSSELS - Denmark would not be able to agree to a transfer of policy areas from the European Union's third pillar to its first pillar, the country's chief negotiator at the IGC said on Tuesday.
