[01] EU extradition cooperation
DUBLIN - European Union justice ministers on Friday signed a convention
aimed at tightening cooperation on extradition to prevent people suspected of
terrorism in one EU member state walking scott free in another (BC-
EXTRADITION).
[02] Satellite communications rules
BRUSSELS - The Telecommunications Council agreed on Friday a plan for
coordinating the regulation of satellite personal communications services.
[03] Internet child exploitation
BRUSSELS - The Telecommunications Council, reacting to a child-sex scandal in
Belgium, pledged on Friday to consider ways to keep material that could harm
children off the Internet.
[04] Postal services deal in November
BRUSSELS - The Irish presidency said on Friday that it was optimistic the
Telecommunications Council would be able to break a deadlock over a plan to
liberalise postal services when it meets on November 28.

LUXEMBOURG - The European Court of Justice has ruled that entertainment
organisers should be taxed in the country where they stage their event rather
than where their business is established.
[06] Progress on trade deal
SEATTLE - U.S. and EU trade chiefs on Saturday removed a major roadblock to an
agreement to scrap tariffs on information technology -- potentially freeing up
billions of dollars worth of trade for themselves, Japan and Canada.
[07] Santer on Italy budget
VENICE, Italy - European Commission President Jacques Santer congratulated
Italy on Friday for its plans to approve a deficit-cutting budget in an effort
to join a single European currency.
[08] Saxony state seeks aid from EU
BONN - Saxony state in the former communist east Germany on Friday called on
the European Commission to grant the region special status for receiving state
aid until the year 2005.
[09] Bosnian police force
DUBLIN - Officials of more than 30 countries met in Dublin on Saturday at a
United Nations conference aimed at raising $99 million to help to build a
democratic police force in post-war Bosnia.

WASHINGTON - Europe's plans for a single currency have won increasing interest
and credibility among its main trading partners, though officials warned on
Sunday that the region's high unemployment remained a blackspot.

BRUSSELS - IGC Working Party of EU foreign ministers' representatives meets to
continue review of EU treaties; discussion on the follow-up to specific issues
in the light of first round of discussions.
