    BRUSSELS - The European Union's monetary committee ended a meeting which focused on the legal framework for a future single European currency.

    BRUSSELS - EU finance ministers are working hard to ensure that any country which meets all of the single currency's preconditions is not penalised by lack of Exchange Rate Mechanism membership, Irish finance minister Ruairi Quinn said on Tuesday.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Tuesday it had cleared the creation of a joint venture between Groupe IP, belonging to France's Havas, and Reuters SA.
