    BRUSSELS - NATO Secretary General Javier Solana said the elections in Russia were a "victory for democracy" and the alliance looked forward to working with the new Russian government.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said it had approved the creation of a joint venture between Rolls Royce Plc and Hong Kong Aircraft Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of John Swire & Sons Ltd, in the field of aero-engine servicing.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said it had cleared a latex joint venture between German chemicals firm Bayer AG and Huls AG, a subsidiary of the Veba group.

    [05] Saint Gobain/BPB deal not a merger

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on the acquisition by Isover St Gobain, the insulating products subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, of a stake in Gyproc Insulation Ltd and Moy Insulation Ltd, which belong to BPB, did not fall under the EU's merger rules.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said it would look into the planned merger of wholesalers Kesko and Tuko following a request from Finnish authorities who fear the deal may harm competition.
