[01] Akdag: "There is no study for the Greek Cypriots to use the water coming from Turkey"

Illegal Bayrak (12.12.17 http://www.brtk.net/akdag-turkiyeden-gelen-suyun-rumlarin-da-kullanmasi-icin-calisma-yok/ ) reports that Recep Akdag, Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister in Charge of Coordinating Cyprus Affairs stated that there is not study so that the Greek Cypriots to start using the water transferred to Cyprus from Turkey, claiming that there are influential Greek Cypriot politicians who would say that they would rather drink poison than water coming from Turkey.

He made these allegations speaking at Ankara Anatolia news agency where he stated that he is sure that the "elections in Cyprus will be conducted with democratic maturity" and added that a stable "government" safeguards development and cooperation (with Turkey). He also gave information about investments and some projects planned for Cyprus and claimed that "the people of TRNC are drinking brilliant water with the water project safeguarded by Turkey's budget".

He also stated that the water was delivered to the gates of every "municipality" adding that the water quality dropped in some places where infrastructure is not very good. However, he said, they will improve these infrastructures with financing from Turkey, adding that "the state water affairs" is working on this subject.

Akdag further alleged that the "TRNC farmers" will increase the productivity of their products and that this will bring wealth and prosperity to the Turkish Cypriot "people". He reminded that there is a road project going to Kyrenia, and added that the road was made quickly and would be completed soon.

He also referred to a hospital project which is based to models of hospitals built in Turkey's provinces and added that it will have modern technical facilities.

He also claimed that some people are giving intentionally misleading information about the hospital project. "These are enemies of Turkey and the Turkish nation. They have hostility to our brothers living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus", he stated, adding that free services will be offered to the citizens at the hospital. "We, as the Republic of Turkey, will materialize these projects in solidarity to the people of Northern Cyprus", he stated.

He also said that there is no study so that the Greek Cypriots to start using the water transferred to Cyprus by Turkey. "The Greek Cypriots can benefit from this water if they maintain their relations in harmony with North Cyprus. We want the island to be an island of peace. We want a solution based on the equal rights of the two communities. We support peace and friendship", he stated.

[02] Turkey's "embassy" in the occupied part of Nicosia filed a complaint against Afrika daily regarding Erdogan's caricature; reactions are continuing

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi newspaper (12.12.17) reports that the illegal Turkish embassy in the occupied part of Nicosia condemned Erdogan's caricature published in Afrika newspaper and "filed a criminal complaint".

In a written statement, the "embassy" stated that the caricature, which was an insult to Erdogan and published in Afrika newspaper on December 8, 2017, was an unacceptable. It added that the caricature created deep anger, sadness among the Turkish Cypriot "people" and Turkey's people.

On the same issue, the paper further reports that self-styled prime minister Huseyin Ozgurgun, speaking yesterday night at the Turkish Cypriot private channel Genc TV, condemned the caricature and added that "this does not fit neither to journalism or humanity". He further argued that "they will do whatever is necessary legally and that he will follow it personally". Ozgurgun noted: "Turkey is a country with diplomatic relations. It is my motherland. They even respect it those who do not call her motherland But you do not do that to a President of a country that you have a relation with it. On the other hand, Mr Tayyip is a state man who loves our country and gives a serious value in our country".

Kudret Ozersay, leader of People's party (HP), commenting also on Erdogan's caricature to Kibris TV, argued: "I think that that this caricature is kind of insulting. This caricature, which was published in Greece, was about to humiliate a person, on top of this, the person is the President of a state. () For this reason, a case should be opened in Greece for insult". Furthermore, Ozersay said that since the case is in court, then the court will decide whether is an insult or not. He added that as it has been understood there are two files; the one is against Minister's (Akdag) statements.

Under the title "A campaign of lynch", Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (12.12.17) on its front page writes: "The dimensions of the lynch campaign that Ankara started against our newspaper are expanding", adding that there are two campaigns, one is "election campaign" and the other is "attack (lynch) campaign".

The paper further reports that last night members of the "association from Alexandretta" held a protest outside the paper's office holding a huge poster of Erdogan. They were threatening, insulting and yelling that "Allah is great". According to the paper, today members of the "association of the Black Sea" will hold a protest in front of the paper's office.

The paper also reports that Sener Elcil, general secretary of the Turkish Cypriot Teachers' trade union (KTOS), in a written statement, said that the main aim of the attack is to silence and to supress the Turkish Cypriot community, adding that the new attack was launched in order to silence the Afrika newspaper with the excuse of the caricature. Elcil explained that Turkey's officers, who are hiding behind the guarantors of the Republic of Cyprus and are trying to transform the north part of the island into their colony, are on a new attack in order to silence "Afrika newspaper", which is the voice of the Turkish Cypriot community.

Elcil noted that Minister Akdag's statements, threats and insults regarding this issue are a clear proof that this incident cannot be explained with a caricature.

[03] Yildirim claimed that the Cyprus problem should stop blocking Turkey's membership to the EU

According to website of the Turkish NTV (11.12.17) https://www.ntv.com.tr/turkiye/basbakan-yildirimdankilicdarogluna-kudus-yaniti,vJrcUrtq0CIrzyM2Zubsw), Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, in statements to the Turkish Grand National Assembly during the budget discussions for 2018, condemned strongly the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and stated that for them the capital of Israel is Tel Aviv.

Also Yildirim, referred, inter alia, to Turkey's ties with the EU, supporting that Turkey's full membership to the Union is still a strategic target for Turkey. He further said that their expectation is for this goal not to be prolonged and to be achieved very soon.

Referring to the Cyprus problem, Yildirim stressed the need for this to stop blocking Turkey's membership to the EU. "The referendum which took place in the Greek Cypriot side during 2014 has turned to be a big obstacle for Turkey's EU bid", he argued.

[07] Erdogan: S-400 missile deal with Russia to be finalized

Ankara Anatolia news agency (12.12.17 http://aa.com.tr/en/politics/erdogan-s-400-missile-deal-with-russia-to-be-finalized/1001846) reports that the purchase of the S-400 missile defense system from Russia will be finalized "this week", Turkihs President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"Our colleagues will come together this week to conclude this work," Erdogan told a news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ankara.

The S-400 is Russia's most advanced long-range anti-aircraft missile system and can carry three types of missiles capable of destroying targets including ballistic and cruise missiles. The system can track and engage up to 300 targets at a time and has an altitude ceiling of 27 kilometers (17 miles).

On trade, Erdogan said cooperation between Ankara and Moscow was getting stronger "day by day".

"Our bilateral trade volume with Russia increased 30 % as of the first 10 months of 2017," he said.

"We have a harmonious working environment at the political level."

The two leaders have met eight times this year. Erdogan said Ankara and Moscow would hold a seventh High-Level Cooperation Council meeting in 2018.

Putin, meanwhile, said obstacles to trade and economic ties had been removed.

"Within the first eight months [of 2017] Turkish agricultural exports to Russia increased by 1.8 %," he said.

Turning to the Middle East, Erdogan said Russia and Turkey were in agreement on the issue of Jerusalem. "We have seen the same approaches with Putin," he said. "We agreed to continue our contacts in this regard."

The Turkish President added that Israel saw the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as its capital as a chance to increase oppression and violence against the Palestinians.

"It is not possible for someone who possesses conscience, morals, principles, values to ignore these murders," he said.

The shift in U.S. policy sparked demonstrations across the Muslim world and Putin said the U.S. decision destabilized the Israel-Palestine dispute rather than contributed to its settlement.

"The status of Jerusalem should be addressed through direct contacts between Israel and Palestine," he said.

Erdogan has called an emergency meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation for Wednesday and Putin said Russia would attend as an observer.

The leaders also discussed Syria. Russia, Turkey and Iran are the guarantor states that brokered a cease-fire in Syria in December 2016, leading to the Astana peace talks.

Erdogan said the three nations would soon hold a repeat of talks held in the Russian resort of Sochi last month.

The trio had consulted on a political process in Syria, Erdogan said.

"As the guarantors of Astana, we will make a significant contribution to the process carried out in Geneva to find a permanent political solution to the Syrian conflict," he added, referring to the UN-backed peace talks.

Putin, who earlier confirmed the Russian military withdrawal from Syria had begun, said "almost" all of Syria's territory had been cleaned of terrorists.

"I would like to appreciate Erdogan's personal efforts and contributions to the solution works for Syria," he added.

Another important topic was energy and Erdogan described energy ties as being at a "new stage with the TurkStream and Akkuyu Projects".

The TurkStream pipeline will carry Russian gas to Turkey and Europe while Russia's Rosatom is planning to start building Akkuyu, Turkey's first nuclear power plant, on the Mediterranean coast next year.

Erdogan said both Ankara and Moscow were "willing and resolute" to realize the projects "as soon as possible".

Putin said TurkStream would increase Turkey's energy security as well as expanding Russian gas routes.

[08] US partner in bloodshed with Jerusalem move claims the Turkish President

Turkish Hurriyet Daily News (12.12.17 http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/erdogan-says-us-is-a-partner-in-bloodshed-with-jerusalem-decision-123919) reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed that the U.S. has become a "partner in bloodshed" with its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"With its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, the United States has become a partner in the bloodshed," Erdogan said at an event marking World Human Rights Day in Ankara on Dec. 11.

"The statement by U.S. President Donald Trump does not bind us, nor does it bind Jerusalem or the Muslim world," he added.

Erdogan, who has been among the most vocal leaders against Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, continued his criticism of the U.S.'s decision to move its Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Recalling that a road map on Jerusalem will be discussed at a summit of the Organization Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul on Dec. 13, which will mark a "turning point," Erdogan described the Jerusalem issue as a "litmus test" for all human rights advocates.

"Those who don't side with the oppressed and the righteous on this issue can have no right to say a word about regional and global peace or on human rights. We will monitor statements about Palestine and Jerusalem and then we will give marks to every country accordingly," he added.

The dramatic shift in Washington's Jerusalem policy has triggered demonstrations in the occupied Palestinian territories, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq and other Muslim-majority countries.

[09] Turkey to host trilateral security meeting on December 14
