[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Denktash, Others Comment on Outcome of VoteAccording to illegal Bayrak Radio (0600 hours, 7/12/98), asked to comment on the way the National Unity Party (UBP) increased its vote, Rauf Denktash said: ``They were well organized and the members looked to their leader for guidance. They used experts for their propaganda. They spent a lot of money and they deserve the votes they received because the people voted for them. They got what they worked for''.Denktash stressed that the UBP spent a tremendous amount of money adding: ``A lot of money was spent on advertisements, and money was given to voters. In a way the UBP bought votes. It may or may not be proven, but everybody knows that. We saw that. Whatever the outcome, the UBP worked for it and got results. Therefore, nobody has the right to say anything about that''. Asked to comment on the results as far as the Democratic Party (DP) is concerned, Rauf Denktash said: ``It is not a well organized party. The members complain about each other. Their lack of organization and, of course, their lack of funds played a great role''. He pointed out that the drop in the votes of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) was caused by the peoples stand on the ``national cause''. The fight between the party administration and former party leader Ozker Ozgur also played a role, he added. DP leader Serdar Denktash noted that the ``election'' results indicate that a ``coalition'' is necessary and that the people want the parties to conduct a dialogue. He stressed that the results show that the DP is not finished or sick. Communal Liberation Party leader Mustafa Akinci said that the ``election'' results must be received with maturity. He affirmed that these ``elections'' are a milestone in the democratization process. Replying to correspondents questions, CTP leader Talat said that his party took a great loss in the ``elections'' but that this will not change the CTPs mission which is to establish a lasting peace on the island and ensure political, economic, and social developments. He said that the party bodies will assess the situation. He noted that there are various reasons why they lost votes, including the three ``coalitions'' that came to power during the past five years, intraparty problems, and the situations regarding the Cyprus problem. Talat criticized Rauf Denktash for constantly making statements against the CTP. He stressed that the CTP will make increased efforts to serve the people and that the loss of votes will not prevent the party from fulfilling its duties. Talat also issued a written statement saying that he believes the left must assume an important role in the current process the pseudostate is going through and that this was the reason why the CTP participated in the ``elections''. He said: ``The general elections have determined the number of deputies that will represent each party at the Assembly. The CTP is a struggle party, one that wages a struggle or peace and democracy. A new process is starting as for today and the CP will leave its mark on this process''.
