In a statement at the meeting, Dentktas alleged: I do not know what Clerides has to gain from these lies. Boutros-Ghali changed the unjust details in that report and wrote the truth. Clerides now avoids that truth and continues to use this wrong report, this report that was unjust to us. In other words, he continues to be unjust to the Turkish Cypriots. He claimed that the Cyprus problem can be solved and peace achieved on the basis of a unification based on the existence of two peoples, two governments, and two states. Denktash stated that without such a basis the Cyprus problem will not advance, threatening that this would be tantamount to the permanent division of the island.
