[02] House President in Libya for talksThe President of the House of Representatives Mr Demetris Christofias arrived in Tripoli, Libya on Monday for a three-day official visit, at the invitation of the President of Libya's General People's Congress Mr Zenati Mohamed Zenati.Mr Christofias had separate meetings with the Libyan Foreign Minister Abdulrahman Shalgan and with the Minister of Environment, Human Resources and Infrastructure and President of the Libyan-Cyprus Friendship Group at the General Peoples' Congress Dr Ehteuesh Ehteuesh. The House President underlined that the prospects for a solution to the Cyprus problem are not auspicious because of the continuing intransigence of the Turkish side and its unreasonable and unacceptable demands for the creation of two states in Cyprus. Mr Christofias stressed that the basis for a viable and just solution to the Cyprus problem can be none other than the UN resolutions and the 1977 an 1979 High Level Agreements, which call for a bizonal, bicommunal federation. The two Ministers also reviewed the very good relations between the two countries and examined issues of mutual interest in the international political scene with an emphasis on developments in the Middle East. At the meeting between Mr Christofias and Dr Ehteuesh, the mutual respect of the two sides was expressed, regarding the steady positions of principle on which each other's support is based on issues affecting the two countries directly or indirectly. Ways of further strengthening the already good relations between the two Parliaments were also discussed. On their part, the Libyan Ministers expressed their country's support for the just struggle of the people of Cyprus and underlined the need for a solution to the Cyprus problem based on the UN resolutions.
