[01] Cyprus President says meeting with Nuland 'satisfactory'

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland had a meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades on Thursday morning, followed by a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.

The meeting lasted one and a half hours and Nuland did not make any statements. CNA has learned that she may be returning to the Presidential Palace in the afternoon, for a second meeting with the President. She is set to see the Turkish Cypriot leader for a second time in the afternoon as well.

Nuland, who arrived on the island on Tuesday, had a meeting with FM Ioannis Kasoulides. She is scheduled to meet UNSG Special Envoy Espen Barth Eide as well.

In a brief statement to the press right after the meeting, the President said that it was very satisfactory and that he had the chance "to discuss our positions."
