[01] CTO aims to attract tourists from the NetherlandsWith the aim to attract tourists from the Netherlands, Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) leadership had a meeting with the Netherlands Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators as well with journalists from the three largest newspapers of the country, held at the CTO offices in Nicosia.In statements after the meeting, CTO President Alekos Oroundiotis said that the meeting was held within the framework of the efforts taken by the CTO in order to reverse the negative picture which was created for Cyprus after the recent events in relation to its economy. He said that there was a very constructive discussion on how to achieve the common goal of increasing the tourist arrivals from the Netherlands and promoting the Cyprus tourist product in the Dutch market. [02] President Anastasiades: No intention to penalise political lifePresident of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades assured on Wednesday that the government neither intends nor aims at penalising political life in Cyprus, noting at the same time that no one enjoys immunity with respect to the investigations into the circumstances that have led economic hardship.Speaking at the Presidential Palace during the swearing-in ceremony of the new member of the Investigation Committee on the responsibilities for the Republic of Cyprus' economic situation Eliana Nicolaou, who substituted Panagiotis Kallis who resigned on Monday from the Committee, Anastasiades said that "any criminal responsibilities that may emerge lie within the responsibility of the independent judiciary and not the government." Addressing Nicolaou, Anastasiades said that the government has provided the Investigation Committee with very broad terms of reference and added: "it is your sole responsibility to fulfill your mandate based on sound judgment, ethics and your career and experience," noting that Nicolaou as well as the President of the Committee George Pikis and the member of the Committee Andreas Kramvis are highly regarded in the Cypriot society. [03] Government of Cyprus welcomes reduction of interest ratesThe government of Cyprus has welcomed the agreement between the Central Bank of Cyprus and the financial institutions to reduce interest rates as from the 1st of May, 2013, Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides has said.Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of a Council of Ministers' meeting, Stylianides said that the reduction of deposit rates was among the key priorities and initiatives taken by the Government to restart the economy. "We considered this measure to be `sine qua non` in order to effectively restart our economy", he went on to say. [04] Korea supports viable and functional solution in CyprusThe Republic of Korea has expressed support for a viable and functional political settlement in Cyprus, on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions.Korean President Park Geun-hye thanked Cyprus for the support for a peaceful solution in the Korean peninsula, as she received the credentials of the new Ambassador of Cyprus Ioanna Malliotis. President Park, according to an official press release, reiterated her country's support towards a viable and functional solution in Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. [05] European project partners meet to support unemployed youth"Hope For Children" UNCRC Policy Centre held the second partners` meeting on April 22 and 23 for the purposes of the European project ARCO, developing key competences for NEET (not in education, employment or training) young people.According to a press release, this is more pertinent now for Cypriot reality given the present political and economic situation where unemployment among young people has reached unprecedented levels. Unemployment was estimated at 31.8% in December 2012 and new sources render a dramatic increase in the following months.
