  • [01] Cyprus ranks 23d in the Economist`s where-to-be-born index

Cyprus ranks 23rd among 80 countries offering the most promising life prospects for children to be born in 2013, according to a quality of life index, composed by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

According to the Economist, the "where-to-be-born index" takes into account 11 statistical indicators concerning financial and social matters, noting that all add up to Switzerland being the best country for a baby to be born in 2013.

The survey takes into account, among other considerations, a country's geography, its demographic trends, the projected income per head in 2030, the crime rate, life expectancy, quality of health and education as well as life-satisfaction surveys.

[02] Laiki Capital expects increased loss for 2012

Laiki Capital announced Thursday that its consolidated financial results for the year ended 31 December 2012 are expected to show an increased loss after tax, compared to the consolidated financial results of the corresponding period of 2011.

The decrease in the results is mainly due to the revaluation/impairment of the financial assets, the expected impairment of goodwill and other intangible assets of the Company, the revaluation of property/investment in property as well as the decrease in the operating income due to the collapse of the trading volumes in both the CSE and the ASE.
