"Cyprus has lost a great leader, an era has passed", said former UN Assistant Secretary General Gustave Feissel on former President of Cyprus Glafcos Clerides who passed away Friday.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of President Clerides. I had the great privilege of knowing President Clerides and working with him for many years in the search for a solution to the Cyprus problem", Feissel has told CNA.

The former UN official added that during the five years he spent in Cyprus he met with President Clerides "enumerable times".
