[01] Euroelections result to decide European Commission's new President
The General Direction of Communication of the European Parliament launched
a 16 million Euro campaign aiming to convey to 500 million citizens of the
EU member states the message that this time things are different, inviting
them to vote in the 2014 European elections, which have for the first time
a decisive importance in the election of the new Commission's President.
With a cost of 3 cent per head and under the slogan "Act, React, Impact"
the Communication DG of the European Parliament aims to convince the EU
member states citizens to participate in the forthcoming election for
more than one reasons, Yiannis Darmis, Head of Unit, EP Press Service,
has told a group of Cypriot journalists visiting Brussels.
One reason is that the European Parliament after the implementation
of the Lisbon Treaty has more powers and the result of the forthcoming
elections will be for the first time taken into consideration when the
elections of the European Commission's new President will be elected.
