[01] Cypriot MPs depart for PACE plenary in StrasbourgA House of Representatives delegation departs on Sunday for Strasbourg, where Cypriot MPs will participate in the autumn plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) between September 30 and October 4. An official press release issued here today says that the delegation is headed by MP Stella Kyriakidou and comprised equally by MPs Giorgos Loukaides, Athina Kyriakidou and Nicos Nicolaides.The plenary will focus on issues such as Syria, the activities of OECD, national security and access to information, democratic institutions in Bosnia and Herzegoving, food safety as well as the matter of missing persons as a result of European conflict and the difficulties in finding out what became of them. At the same time the first ever Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize, honouring outstanding civil society action in defence of human rights, is to be awarded at a special ceremony on the opening day. An awareness campaign on breast cancer will also be launched as a result of an initiative by Cypriot MP Stella Kyriakidou. [02] Slovakia supports Cyprus' application to PfPSlovak Minister of Defence Martin Glvac has expressed his country's support for Cyprus' application to join the programme Partnership for Peace (PfP). According to an official press release issued Friday Glvac who was speaking during a meeting he had yesterday, in Bratislava, with Cypriot Minister of Defence Photis Photiou, also referred to his country's decision to continue its contribution to the UN peacekeeping mission in Cyprus UNFICYP.The press release also says that at a meeting Photiou had with Slovak House of Representatives President Pavol Paska, on Friday, he expressed the full support of his country to the Cyprus government's efforts for the solution of the Cyprus problem as well as the Slovak diplomacy's readiness to help. During the meeting he had with his counterpart, on Thursday, the two ministers exchanged points of view on matters of common interest, discussed bilateral relations, as well as current developments in the Middle East with an emphasis on Syria, the prospects of the peace process in the Middle East and the role the EU can play in consolidating democracy and stability in the region. [03] Vehicle registration for January-August down by 34.1%Total registrations of motor vehicles in Cyprus for January - August decreased by 34.1% to 12.421 in January - August 2013, from 18.847 in January - August 2012.According to figures released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, the number of private saloon cars registered decreased to 8.833 from 13.952 in January - August 2012, marking a decrease of 36.7%.
