[03] Sacrifices are evenly shared in Cyprus, says ILO officialUnlike what happened in other European countries, Cyprus has not seen measures aimed at deregulating labour market or downgrading collective bargaining, Raymond Torres Director of the International Institute for Labour Studies, the International Labour Organization's (ILO) top research facility, has told CNA.He has also warned that if nothing gets done to combat youth unemployment, southern European countries, Ireland but also the core European countries, such as France and Germany, would be affected. In an interview with CNA, Torres says that the shock is recent in Cyprus so the financial fallout may still affect for a period of time the economy, noting that Cyprus' recovery also depends very much on what happens in other European countries and at global level. "Unlike what happened in other European countries, apparently there have been no firm measures to deregulate the labour market or downgrade collective bargaining. I think this is a positive point, maybe it's a lesson from what has been done in other countries. What Cyprus and other countries need is social cohesion and balanced measures.
