The meeting will be held at the residence of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus, Liza Buttenheim, in the UN-protected area of Nicosia Airport.

During their working dinner on 14 April, President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu discussed ways to move the negotiations for a Cyprus settlement.

UN Special Adviser of the Secretary-General for Cyprus, Alexander Downer told reporters after the dinner that he discussed with them about their meeting in June with the UN Secretary General.

UN-backed direct negotiations for a solution to the Cyprus problem began in September 2008. Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

[02] EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER - CYPRUS -VISIT

During her visit, Commissioner Damanaki will be received by President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and will hold meetings with House President Marios Garoyan and Foreign Minister Marcos Kyprianou.

The EU Commissioner will also be meeting with Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Demetris Eliades, with whom she will give a joint press conference.

According to the Commissioners official schedule, she will also meet with the Pancyprian Association of Fishermen as well as other associations. On Friday, the Commissioner will meet Minister of Communications and Works Erato Kozakou Markoullis, the Cyprus Union of Shipowners and the Cyprus Shipping Chamber.
