[01] LEADERS - NEW MEETINGPresident of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will be holding a new meeting on January 12, in the context of UN-led direct negotiations to solve the Cyprus problem.The meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the aides of the leaders of the two communities, George Iacovou and Kudret Ozersay, on January 5. In statements to CNA, Iacovou said that, according to Eroglu`s doctors, the Turkish Cypriot leader, who recently underwent heart surgery, will be well enough to attend the meeting on January 12. Iacovou noted that during yesterdays meeting with Ozersay they discussed issues concerning governance, adding that on January 5 they will be discussing issues relating to the economy and the EU, in preparation for the leaders` meeting on January 12. Asked if during the meeting with Ozersay he raised the interruption of the Christmas liturgy in the Turkish occupied areas, Iacovou said he did not, since representations had already been made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the UN. [02] GAROYIAN - NEW YEARPresident of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian expressed hope on Friday that 2011 would see the reunification of Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.He also expressed hope that economic development will create conditions of prosperity, adding that the challenges ahead must be met effectively and decisively. The people and the political leadership must unite to work together to pave the way for the future of our country. I wish you all a healthy and happy new year, he said, as he listened to New Years carols by the police, the National Guard and ELDYK (Greek military contingent in Cyprus) bands. He expressed hope that Greece and Cyprus will manage to overcome difficulties ahead and give hope and prospects to their people. [03] CEA - OIL TERMINALThe Cyprus Electricity Authority has notified the government of its recommendation on the selection of the investor who will construct an oil terminal for liquefied natural gas.The Board of Directors of the CEA, which held an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, decided unanimously to accept the recommendation of the independent consultants, the managerial committee and the Authoritys negotiating team relating to the short list of the strategic associates and the preferred strategic associate with whom CEA will consult on the matter, a press release, issued after the meeting, said. The CEA decision was conveyed to Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides. During Thursday`s extraordinary meeting, the CEA discussed the selection of the strategic associate who will participate in the joint venture which will undertake to develop, fund, operate and manage the terminal for liquefied natural gas at Vasiliko. [04] EARNINGS - INCREASEThe average monthly earnings of employees in Cyprus during the third quarter of 2010 recorded an increase of 3.6%, compared to the same period last year.According to the preliminary estimates of the Statistical Service, the average monthly earnings of employees during the third quarter of 2010 amounted to 1,865 EUR, with 2,041 EUR for males and 1,653 EUR for females. In comparison with the third quarter of 2009, an increase of 3.6% was recorded in the average monthly earnings of employees, with 3% for males and 4.8% for females. The corresponding increase observed during the third quarter of 2009 was 2.6%. The increase mainly reflects the payment of the Cost of Living Allowance on the gross earnings of employees, 1.4% as from January 2010 and 0.92% as from July 2010.
