Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou departs on Monday for Lebanon.

Kyprianou will be received by Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, while he will meet his counterpart Ali Al-Shami.

    [02] DEFENCE MINISTER - CYPRUS

Defence Minister Costas Papacostas has said that the government will continue to struggle consistently and persistently with a view to reunite Cyprus, divided since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974.

We want to live in a free country, without foreign troops and guarantees, without any barbed wires of hatred and division, in conditions of security, peace, democracy and justice. We want to live in a free, reunited Cyprus, a common, prosperous homeland for all its inhabitants, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, he added.

Speaking during a memorial service for four men from Chloraka, Paphos, killed in defence of democracy during the Greek coup in 1974 and another man also from Cloraka killed during the Turkish invasion, Papacostas said that the current phase of the Cyprus problem is crucial and that unity and consensus are required.

Papacostas stressed that the settlement of the Cyprus problem must provide for a bizonal, bicommunal federation on the basis of the High Level Agreements of 1977 and 1979, the UN relevant resolutions and the international and European law principles.

We are struggling to achieve a settlement that will restore human rights and the fundamental freedoms of all of our people. President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias is striving to achieve such a settlement, the Minister added.

He also noted that the Cypriots must be the real masters of their home and that no foreign force should have the right to intervene in the internal matters of the country.

    [03] MINISTER QATAR

The investment deal singed recently between Cyprus and Qatar constitutes the biggest investment ever made in Cyprus, Cypriot Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Antonis Paschalides has said.

Addressing the opening ceremony of a Wine Festival and Business Exhibition 2010 organized in London, Paschalides pointed out that the deal will have ``direct and indirect multiplying effects on the Cypriot economy.``

According to Paschalides, the United Kingdom traditionally constitutes the biggest market for Cypriot products and services. ``The government aims to further improve our competitiveness and to increase our share in the market,`` he added.

Paschalides said his Ministry`s policy priorities include the support of industry, the promotion of entrepreneurship and attraction of investments, adding that big importance is given on the promotion of services offered by Cyprus, which are of high level and are very favourably compared with services other countries are offering.

Regarding Tourism, Paschalides said that 2010 will be another difficult year with many peculiarities, adding that the government pays special attention to big infrastructure projects which pay a substantive role in improving Cyprus tourist product.

Referring to the Cypriot winemaking industry, Paschalides said that in times of international financial crisis and strong competition collective effort, determination, responsibility and quality is needed.

He added that the sector has utilized to the highest level all available funding, to upgrade and modernise the wineries located at the heart of Cypriot vineyards.

``The progress achieved is confirmed from the numerous international awards, secured by Cypriot wines and Commandaria in foreign markets, an element which is very promising for a successful export effort,`` he concluded.
