[01] CYPRUS TALKS - LEADERS` MEETINGS
The leaders of the two communities in Cyprus will hold two consecutive
meetings this week in the United Nations Protected Area (UNPA) of
Nicosia. The meetings take place in the framework of UN-led direct
negotiations with a view to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem.
President of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader
Mehmet Ali Talat will meet Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Cyprus, which joined the EU in 2004, has been divided since 1974, when
Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The leaders of the two
communities have been engaged in direct negotiations since September
2008, to find a negotiated settlement that will reunite the country
under a federal roof.
