[01] TOURIST ARRIVALS DOWN
Tourist arrivals in Cyprus recorded a significant decrease of 11.1% in
August 2009, according to Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat).
CyStat announced Thursday that on the basis of the results of the
Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 291.583 in August 2009
compared to 328.100 in August 2008, recording a decrease of 11.1%.
A decrease of 11.5% was recorded in tourist arrivals from the United
Kingdom (157.669 in August 2009 compared to 178.257 in August 2008),
31.9% decrease from Russia (20.660 compared to 30.342) and 5.3%
decrease from Sweden (16.950 compared to 17.892 last year). On the
other hand an increase of 2.3% was recorded in tourist arrivals from
Germany (from 10.313 in August 2008 to 10.552 in August 2009) and 15.8%
increase from Norway (from 8.209 to 9.503 this year).
