  • [01] CZECH PRESIDENT OF PARLIAMENT OFFICIAL VISIT

    Czech President of Parliament Miloslav Vlcek arrives in Cyprus on Sunday for a three-day official visit, heading a parliamentary delegation and a group of businesspeople.

    According to an official press release, participating in the delegation are Vice President of the Czech Parliament Vojtech Filip, member of the Democratic Party (ODS) Jiry Hanus, President of the Social Democratic Party (CSSD) Michal Hasek, President of the Christian Democratic Party (KDU-CSL) Pavel Severa, President of the Communist Party Pavel Kovacik and President of the Bohemia and Moravia Communist Party (KSCM).

    During his stay in Cyprus, Vlcek will be accepted by President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and will meet with House of Representatives President Marios Garoyian.

    Meetings will also be held with President of the Parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Cyprus-Czech Republic Friendship Group Averof Neophytou, the members of the Committee, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Justice and Public Order Kypros Chrysostomides.

    The Czech Parliamentarians will also meet with the Mayors of Nicosia and Paralimni, the President and members of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other officials.

    They will also participate in events organised by Czech Republic citizens staying in Cyprus and will visit the ceasefire line in Nicosia.

    [02] HOUSE PRESIDENT TURKEY - CYPRUS ISSUE

    House President, Marios Garoyian received Friday the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Forum On Small Arms and Light Weapons, Peter Weiderub, whom he briefed on the latest development in the Cyprus question.

    According to an official statement, during the meeting the House President was briefed about the effects of the existence of small arms and light weapons and the action of the Parliamentary Forum in this field.

    Garoyian briefed Weiderub about the ongoing negotiations for a solution of the Cyprus problem, stressing that there will be progress only if the Turkish side shows good will. The international community should exert pressure on Turkey to contribute to a successful outcome in the negotiations, he pointed out.

    [03] CYPRUS EURO SOUTH EAST CONGRESS

    Cyprus will be hosting the 6th Euro South East congress, focusing on the protection of the euro.

    The congress, which will take place in Nicosia from November 3 to 6, is organised by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the police authorities of Germany and Cyprus, and will be attended by representatives of police, law offices and judicial authority officers from 20 European states.

    The congress in Nicosia will be addressed by Minister of Justice and Public Order Kypros Chrysostomides, Deputy Chief of Police Michael Papageorgiou, Bavaria`s Chief of Police Waldemar Kindler and OLAF representative Yiannis Xenakis

    [04] CYPRIOT MINISTER ROME - CONFERENCE

    Minister of Communications and Works, Nicos Nicolaides, departs on Monday for Rome to participate in a ministerial conference on November 4.

    According to an official announcement, the conference will be attended by the Transport Ministers of Italy, Greece and Malta as well as non-EU state members, which participate as observers (Egypt, Tunisia, Albania and Jordan).

    The Blue Med programme regarding the creation of a Functional Airspace Blocks in the Mediterranean, aiming to maintain high security for shipping and the air space in Europe, will be on the agenda of the meeting. Ministers will sign a declaration on the continuation of this programme and express their will to support it.
