[01] SPOKESMAN - LIMNITIS - PYLAGovernment Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has said that the Greek Cypriot side was ready to proceed with the opening of a crossing point at Limnitis - to facilitate movement to and from the northern Turkish occupied areas of the Republic - and clarified that this issue was not linked to any other issue, including that of Pyla.Regarding recent incidents in the mixed village of Pyla, during which unknown persons defaced a Turkish Cypriot monument, Stephanou said the government ``condemns any provocative action in this sensitive area, no matter where it comes from. The government, he added, is investigating the incident in cooperation with the UN, which have the responsibility of the area,`` which borders the occupied part of the country and where Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots live. Asked about the timing of the incident, as the Turkish Cypriot side is trying to link the issue of Limnitis with that of Pyla, Stephanou said ``our position is well known that the issue of opening the Limnitis crossing point is not linked to any other issue.`` He added that the issue of Limnitis has been defined as a priority by the leaders of the two communities and that ``we are keeping this priority and are working in the direction of opening the specific crossing point the soonest possible, because it will serve both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.`` ``Significant preparation has already been made and we believe that soon we will have some developments,`` Stephanou said, adding that ``we are ready to work and we are working in this direction, so that the crossing point can open soon or at least secure the decision to open the crossing point.`` ``What is important is the decision to open the crossing point because thereafter specific work will have to be done, which may take some time,`` he pointed out.
