  • [01] BRITISH ENVOY CYPRUS

Joan Ryan, British Prime Minister`s Special Representative to Cyprus, will visit Cyprus and Greece next week with a renewed sense of optimism, as she says.

At the same time, the British diplomat underlines that the focus should remain on achieving progress towards a settlement acceptable to all Cypriots adding that this will require sustained political leadership and courage.

She also stresses that, if success is to be achieved, and this new opportunity taken, then any new settlement must be for Cypriots, by Cypriots.

In an article, Ryan said she will be visiting Greece and Cyprus next week with a renewed sense of optimism, adding that this year represents a real opportunity to end the division of Cyprus.

    [02] IACOVOU - NAMI - MEETINGS

Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou and Ozdil Nami, adviser to Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, will be meeting again on Monday, since they have agreed on the agendas of the twelve working groups and an agreement is pending on one, while the list of persons to comprise the groups is almost finished.

In statements, Iacovou said ``we have an agreement on twelve and one remains,`` adding that they exchanged views and decided they needed another meeting to wrap up their work.

``We will meet again on Monday afternoon,`` Iacovou said, noting that they would use the weekend for brainstorming.

Asked when the technical committees and working groups would begin work, Iacovou said this was an issue he had to discuss with President Demetris Christofias, who he was updating daily.
