[01] CHRISTOFIAS - US - CYPRUSCypriot President Demetris Christofias has assured that he will make every possible effort towards reaching a just, viable and functional solution of the Cyprus problem. In an address read out at the 36th Congress of the Cyprus Federation of America, President Christofias thanked the member of the Federation for their support to efforts aimed at reaching a Cyprus settlement and the work they have been doing in the United States. ``Your contribution to the struggle of our people is valuable and especially appreciated,`` President Christofias pointed out. He furthermore assured that he would make ``every possible effort in all directions in order to achieve, all together, an agreed, just, viable and functional solution, which will terminate the occupation of our country.`` An address was also conveyed to the Congress by former President Tassos Papadopoulos, who thanked the leadership of the Federation for its assistance and called on the Federation to continue providing support to President Christofias. [02] KYPRIANOU - US - CYPRUSCypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou, speaking at the 36th Congress of the Cyprus Federation of America, said that a Cyprus settlement means that there will be no need for crossing points.Briefing the delegates on recent developments in the Cyprus problem and especially the March 21 agreement between President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, Kyprianou said ``it was not an easy meeting,`` adding however that the leaders of the two communities ``managed to achieve the March 21 agreement and resume the process, after many years, to seek a Cyprus settlement.`` Kyprianou said ``the process will be difficult`` and that timeframes should be avoided in order ``to give the opportunity, with insistence, to solve the most difficult aspects of the problem.`` He pointed out that President Christofias is committed and willing to work towards a solution but would at the same time ``stand firm on the fundamental principles that should constitute a proper, effective, viable, functional solution of the Cyprus problem.`` Kyprianou also sent a message to the Turkish side and other parties involved that in the framework of a settlement, only the evolution of the Republic of Cyprus would be acceptable and that the creation of a new state was out of the question. [03] BRITAIN - CYPRUS SOLUTIONBritish Prime Minister Gordon Brown looks forward to talks with Cypriot President Demetris Christofias to see if Britain can play its part in achieving a solution of the Cyprus problem.Asked by CNA how Britain could help in exploring the new positive climate on Cyprus for a new initiative, which can lead to a solution, Brown said ``I talked to the new leadership, I have invited them to London.`` ``We are going to have talks about that, to see if we can play our part in obviously what is going to be a negotiated solution,`` he added.
