[01] ELECTIONS MEASURES VOTING -SECRECY
The Chief Returning Officer for the presidential elections has
announced that all measures are being taken to secure the secrecy of
voting, in order to carry out objective elections, and that the
administrative and legislative arrangements are such that guarantee
total secrecy.
Voters will be requested to enter the booths provided in order to vote,
and can be sure that ther identity or their vote cannot be determined
after voting by any other person. The Chief Returning Officer notes
that ballots are printed on white security paper and are identical for
the whole of Cyprus. Polling stations will open at 07:00 local time and
will close at 17:00, with a one-hour break at 12:00. The head of each
station will be able to extend voting time until 21:00, if there are
queues waiting to vote.
Blue or black ink biros will be available in the booths and any other
colour ink used will render the ballot void. Furthermore, special
arrangements have been made for blind individuals or handicapped
persons. Those who are not in a position to vote alone may request the
help of the staff at the polling station or may name a person to vote
on their behalf.
