[01] STATE BUDGET - APPROVAL
The Cyprus House of Representatives after a four-day debate has
approved the state budget for 2008, Cyprus` last budget in Cyprus
pounds as the country adopts the euro on 1st of January 2008.
The budget provides for revenue of 4,133.40.000 Cyprus pounds and
expenditure of 4,413.90.000 Cyprus pounds.
The budget was approved on Thursday evening by 37 votes in favour and
17 votes against. Left-wing party AKEL, Democratic Party and Social
Democrats Movement EDEK as well as the European Party and the
Ecologists and Environmentalist Movement voted in favour, while against
voted main opposition party Democratic Rally (DISI).
In 2007 revenue amounted 3.31 billion pounds and expenditure to 4.07
billion Cyprus pounds.
The exchange rate of the Cyprus Pound against Euro is around 0.5835 and
against the US dollar is approximately 0.4075.
