  • [01] FM - EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT - T/Cs

Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs George Lillikas expressed on Monday the conviction that ``the European Parliament will move within the framework of legality and the principles its function is based on,`` regarding a report prepared by the Parliament`s Contact Group with the Turkish Cypriots, adding that the report has not yet been publicised and ``we at least do not have it.``

Commenting on the report and the effort of the Cypriot side to avert the promotion of a direct dialogue between the European Parliament and the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus, Lillikas said ``for the time being it is a draft.``

``I think it is untimely to begin to judge or criticise or welcome a report which no one has yet and does not know exactly what it suggests,`` he said, adding that the government is in contact with the Group and the European Parliament presidency.

Lillikas was speaking at Larnaca Airport before departing for Bulgaria, where he will have a series of meetings aimed at discussing and exchanging views on EU issues and bilateral relations.

He said both countries belong to the group of Mediterranean nations ``with many common interests or common problems,`` adding that there was room for cooperation in a series of issues concerning the EU.

    [02] CYPRUS - ARMENIAN ORGANISATIONS - HRANT DINK`S ASSASSINATION

Armenian organisations in Cyprus staged a demonstration on Sunday at the Armenian Nareg church in Nicosia to deplore the assassination of Turkish journalist of Armenian origin Hrant Dink in Turkey.

Armenian Archbishop Varoujian said Hrant Dink was the most recent martyr of the Armenian genocide, adding that ``many Hrants will follow but the guilt will continue to rest with Turkey until it decides to wash it off with its own hands.``
