[01] PAPADOPOULOS - MILITARY PARADE
The President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos has described
impressive the military parade that took place to commemorate the 46th
anniversary since the nations independence, saying he was proud of his
country, which he stressed must be safeguarded and protected through a
unified front.
Papadopoulos, flanked by Greek National Defence Minister Evangelos
Meimarakis and Acting Cyprus Defence Minister, Finance Minister
Michalis Sarris, took the salute of the 45-minute long parade, watched
also by the islands political, military and religious leadership as
well as members of the diplomatic corps.
Thanking all those involved in organizing the parade, Papadopoulos said
it was impressive and fills us with pride towards the armed forces of
the Republic. This year we celebrate the independence of the Republic
of Cyprus and declare our pride for our Republic which we want to
protect and maintain through unity and common goals, he said. He
expressed gratitude to the Greek government for the continuous
cooperation and support it affords Cyprus and added we believe we are
in a position to achieve these goals.
