House President Demetris Christofias interrupted an MP's speech to announce that the MPs and the staff had to evacuate the building to allow Police bomb experts to search the building. "There was a telephone call for a possible bomb explosion", said Cristofias. He said the debate will continue at 1500 hours local today (1200 GMT). He noted that the draft was in line with the European Council conclusions of 17 December 2004, which were confirmed by the Council on 17 June 2005. The draft, he added, was positive in that it gave further details on the negotiating framework. In its resolution, the House ''declares that the United Kingdom has no sovereignty over the territory of the British Bases, even in the context of the Treaty of Establishment, but a commitment to merely use this territory for specific military purposes.'' Asked if the government had ''two voices'' and if the Ministers from leftwing AKEL in the coalition disagreed with the rest of the Cabinet, which was in favour of the Treaty, Iacovou said ''the government is one, it is the government of President Tassos Papadopoulos and is expressed with one voice, the voice of the President and the Council of Ministers.''
