    Papadopoulos: Turkey has no excuse not to sign EU protocol

    Nicosia, Jun 19 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has said that Turkey no longer has any excuse not to sign a protocol to its customs union agreement with the European Union, that would extend the agreement to all ten new member states, including Cyprus which Ankara does not recognize.

    He also said that the EU would appreciate the ratification of the European Constitution by the Cyprus House of Representatives, as planned at the end of June, pointing out that Cyprus has nothing to gain from postponing or suspedning the ratification process.

    EDP promises to support and promote a European solution in Cyprus

    Nicosia, Jun 19 (CNA) -- European Democratic Party (EDP) believes that the solution to the Cyprus problem should be compatible with the European acquis, based on UN resolutions and human rights, in order for it to be just, democratic, workable and viable.

    In a declaration adopted by the EDP Council at a meeting in the southeastern town of Larnaca participants, European leaders as well as members of the European Parliament said that Turkey cannot begin accession negotiations unless it ends the occupation of Cyprus' northern part.
