    Ereli: US favours Cyprus' reunification based on Annan plan

    Washington, Mar 31 (CNA) -- The US favours the reunification of Cyprus on the basis of the Annan plan, US State Department Deputy Spokesman Adam Ereli has stated when invited to say if the US wants Turkish occupation forces to leave the Republic of Cyprus.

    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 01/04/2005 to 02/04/2005 ---------------------------------------- The weather will be cloudy at times with rain and thunderstorms, and a probability of sleet or snow over Troodos mountains.

    Winds will be westerly to southwesterly moderate to fresh locally strong, over moderate to locally rough seas.

    Temperatures will reach a maximum of 17 to 20 degrees Centigrade inland, 18 to 21 along the coast, and 8 to 11 degrees over the Prodromos area. Minimum temperatures will be 8 to 11 degrees Centigrade inland, 11 to 14 along the coast and 5 to 8 degrees over the mountains.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 03/04/2005 to 04/04/2005 ------------------------------- On Sunday the weather will be cloudy at times with local showers or thunderstorms and snowfall over the mountains.

    On Monday the weather will be locally partly cloudy with a probability of isolated showers and snowfall over Troodos mountains, improving soon. Temperatures are expected to drop.

    Cyprus and US sign Memorandum on combating money laundering

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- Cyprus Unit for Combating Money Laundering (MOKAS) and the US Department of the Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

    A MOKAS press release said the Memorandum was signed in the framework of international cooperation on issues concerning money laundering and combating financing of terrorism, to finalize the already existing close cooperation between the two units.

    Cyprus says non-implementation of protocol a double violation

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- Cypriot Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said today that failure on behalf of Turkey to sign and implement the protocol extending its customs union with the EU to the ten new member-states, including Cyprus, would be a double violation of its international obligations towards the EU and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

    He said remarks by Turkish officials that the docking of Cypriot ships in Turkish ports and the use of Turkish airspace by Cypriot aircraft were ''services'' and thus not covered by the customs union, was ''a shaky and unfounded argument, which is denied by the content of the customs union and the broader international obligations of Turkey towards the WTO.''

    Cyprus FM welcomes Turkeys commitment to accept protocol

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) The Cyprus government has welcomed Turkeys written commitment to accept the text of a protocol extending the Ankara Agreement to all ten new member states of the European Union, including the Republic of Cyprus.
