    US does not bribe people for political ends, says State Department

    Washington, Nov 2 (CNA) -- The United States does not bribe people with public money for political ends, US State Department Deputy Spokesman Adam Ereli has said, commenting on reports that some people in Cyprus have been bribed to actively support a UN-proposed solution plan (the Annan plan).

    EU Commission to amend Green Line Regulation

    Nicosia, Nov 2 (CNA) -- The European Commission considers to amend its ''Green Line'' regulation, so that the trade of citrus fruits and some animal products from the Turkish-occupied northern part, is allowed through the Cyprus government's controlled areas.

    European Commission official Leopold Maurer said here today that the Commission would also propose a higher level of duty free cigarettes and alcohol for European travelers via the dividing line in Cyprus, the so-called Green Line.

    Cyprus consents to temporary detour road by occupation forces

    Nicosia, Nov 2 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has revealed that the Turkish occupation forces are constructing a detour road through the Zodia Astromeritis area which goes through a minefield, and at the same time violating the property rights of Greek Cypriot owners in the area.

    Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said today that the government consented to the temporary construction of the detour at the Astromeritis passage, to enable the short-term requisition of the Greek Cypriots properties, provided the occupation forces agree. The UN, said Chrysostomides, conveyed the proposal, to the occupation forces and the government is expecting a reply.

    Nicosia, Nov 2 (CNA) The Cyprus government is making efforts to clarify the issue of millions of US dollars allocated by the Congress for bicommunal projects, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said today, adding that there has been an attempt to create confusion around this issue.

    Nicosia, Nov 2 (CNA) All necessary representations and diplomatic actions have been made towards Britain and the US regarding the presence of British High Commissioner Lyn Parker and Charge d Affaires of the US Embassy in Nicosia Ned Nolan at a reception of the so called Turkish embassy in the areas of Cyprus under Turkish occupation.

    Cyprus government concerned over lack of progress in CMP

    Nicosia, Nov 2 (CNA) The Cyprus government has expressed concern over the lack of progress in the negotiations of the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP).

    Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said efforts are underway through the UN to put pressure on the other side to proceed according to the issues agreed on for the missing.
