Answering a question by British MP Tom Cox, McShane expressed regret that there was no comprehensive settlement in Cyprus in time for a reunited island to sign the Treaty of Accession with the EU on April 16, 2003 , adding that as decided by the 2002 Copenhagen European Council the island will accede with the acquis communautaire suspended in the Turkish occupied northern part. The demonstration was organised by the Alliance Stop the War, with the backing of the Ecologists Environmentalists Movement, the Social Forum and Palestinians living in Cyprus. The demonstrators marched from the Lefkotheo Sports Centre to the radio station, which they described as spy centre.
